Brandon Scherff to sign $15-plus million franchise tender with Redskins

The three-time Pro-Bowler is signing his franchise tender with Washington, locking him down for the 2020 season.

The Washington Redskins right guard Brandon Scherff has signed his $15 million franchise tender, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, which will lock him in with the team for the coming season. By signing the tender, Scherff will be required to show up to training camp this summer, if that ends up happening.

The Redskins placed the franchise tag on Scherff at the start of free agency, locking him down for the 2020 season while they try to negotiate a long-term extension. Guaranteeing Scherff’s return in 2020 was at the top of Ron Rivera and Washington’s to-do list, so they could solidify the right side of their offensive line and focus their attention elsewhere.
