Brandon Scherff to have labrum surgery Friday

Brandon Scherff heads to free agency this offseason.

Washington Redskins guard Brandon Scherff heads for surgery Friday to repair his labrum injury after the team sent him to the injured reserve.

Redskins interim coach Bill Callahan shared the news with reporters Wednesday and also wasn’t shy about what he hopes to see happen with his star guard this offseason.

“Hopeful that he is re-upped, and hopeful he gets the contract he desires,” Callahan said, according to The Athletic’s Rhiannon Walker.

Whether that actually happens is hard to say. The veteran has had problems staying healthy over the last few seasons and is a free agent this offseason.

But Callahan wasn’t shy in his praise:

Something to keep in mind is the possibility of the Redskins tagging Scherff if no long-term deal is reached.

But for now, the focus is on Scherff’s impending operation and whether he can make it back in time for training camp.
