Brandon McManus hits game-winning field goal as Packers take down Texans

In his first game as a Packer, veteran kicker Brandon McManus hit a game-winning field goal to beat the Texans.

DeMeco Ryans tried to ice the 10-year veteran, but Green Bay Packers kicker Brandon McManus wouldn’t be denied his special moment as he connected on a 45-yard field goal as time expired to beat the Houston Texans on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

McManus was acquired in kicker swap by the Packers on Wednesday. Four days later, his game-winner at the buzzer extended the Packers’ win streak to three games.

The seventh lead change of the game was the final one. After the Texans took a 22-21 lead with 1:44 to go, Jordan Love led the Packers 44 yards in eight plays to set up McManus with a 45-yard kick with three seconds left. Ryan called timeout at the snap of his first attempt, which split the uprights. On his second attempt, McManus snuck his kick inside the left upright for the win with no time remaining.

The Packers turned the ball over three times and were inconsistent offensively, but three touchdown passes from Love, four sacks of C.J. Stroud and the late kick from McManus were enough for the Packers to get the job done at Lambeau Field.

On the final drive, Love hit Tucker Kraft for eight yards, Dontayvion Wicks for 12 yards and Romeo Doubs for 13 yards and six yards to set up the field goal.

Credit to Daniel Whelan, who gathered a poor snap and got the hold down in time for McManus to make the kick.

The Packers are now 5-2 overall and 3-1 at home. Matt LaFleur’s team has consecutive wins over the Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals and Texans. Next up is a trip to Jacksonville to face the 2-5 Jacksonville Jaguars next Sunday.
