Brandon Bass to join IT, Joe Johnson on Team USA for AmeriCup qualifiers

The trio of former Celtics will represent the United States in the FIBA competition.

There are now to be three former Boston Celtics playing for the FIBA AmeriCup qualifiers in San Juan, Puerto Rico later this month according to the Associated Press.

Joining beloved former Celtic floor general Isaiah Thomas and Boston small forward draftee Joe Johnson is former Celtic big man Brandon Bass. Bass is replaying Ivy League player of the year Paul Atkinson after Atkinson tested positive asymptomatically with COVID-19. Their teammates include UConn Huskies alumnus Josh Boone, Treveon Graham, James Nunnally, Dakota Mathias and Jordan Sibert, and play begins on Feb 19 against the Bahamas in Puerto Rico, with a match against Mexico the following day.

Bass played for the Celtics from 2011 to 2015, moving on to the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers for his final two seasons in the league before another pair of seasons overseas in China.
