Brad Stevens rapping in the bubble? Assistant Jerome Allen says it’s true

It might bend credulity a bit, but we believe Boston Celtics assistant coach Jerome Allen when he says coach Brad Stevens flexed his flow at Disney.

What happens in the bubble, stays in the bubble — unless you’re talking to Boston Celtics assistant coach Jerome Allen, that is.

Speaking about his experiences down in Lake Buena Vista, Florida for the Disney restart on a recent episode of the “Celtics Talk” podcast, Allen shared an interesting story about Celtics head coach Brad Stevens you need to hear to actually believe.

While the Indiana native is certainly less of the “aw, shucks, by gosh” sort of guy than he sometimes seems cast as by the media, he is by no means the sort of guy you expect to look over and see dropping some bars to pass the time.

But that’s exactly what happened, according to the Boston assistant.

“The funniest thing in the bubble, one game — I think it was the [Washington] Wizards in the last play-in game — the DJ was playing,” began Allen.

“He’s still mixing as the guys are walking out onto the floor. I think he was playing “Poison” by Bell Biv DeVoe. And then he mixes in Rob Base, “It takes Two”. It comes to the breaks and says, ‘Hit it!’ And as Rob Base is starting to sing the lyrics, Brad is singing the lyrics to the song. He’s like ‘I wanna rock right now. I’m Rob Base and I came to get down! I’m not internationally known.’ with a straight face. So I bust out laughing, right?”

“He says, ‘What are you laughing at?’; I said ‘No one in the world will believe he was flowing right now.’ He was like, ‘What are you talking about? This is 90s hip-hop — this DJ is pretty good, isn’t he?”

Of course Allen — a disc jock himself — kept his opinions to himself at the moment, too kind to point out that the track in question by Rob Base came out in 1988.

While it’s certainly not Brad spitting over some Gravediggaz or a GZA track (actual 90s hip hop), it’s a shame we don’t have that moment on video, as it would make for a most legendary clip.
