The Philadelphia 76ers are a team that is trying to pick up the pieces following a very disappointing 2019-20 season. They have brought in Doc Rivers as their new head coach and there is more optimism about the team’s future.
However, the fact remains that this roster is still awkward surrounding their star duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. One of the pieces that general manager Elton Brand brought in to try and help the team take the next step, Al Horford, has not fit in with the two of them due to his lack of shooting.
So, as the team moves forward, some believe the Sixers will at least try and move Horford. A new trade suggestion from Bleacher Report says the team should send Horford and two second-round picks in the 2020 NBA Draft to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Andrew Wiggins.
B/R on the deal:
Horford may actually fit the roster better as a starting center who can pass, defend and shoot from three. His contract no longer fits his production, but Wiggins has never played up to his, either. Getting a pair of top second-rounders would give the Warriors some more young talent to use in future trades.
For Philly, getting off Horford’s deal would be a win as doing so would allow the team to move Tobias Harris to power forward and keep Simmons at point guard, where he’s thrived. Wiggins is nine years younger than Horford and could start at small forward for the Sixers, giving the roster better balance overall.
To that last point, the Sixers would probably like to move Tobias Harris back to the 4 where he has had the most success in his career while playing for Rivers with the Los Angeles Clippers. Philadelphia then could roll Wiggins out there at the 3 and have him fit better with the roster overall.
Wiggins averaged 21.8 points and he shot 33.2% from deep while playing for the Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. While he does not fix the team’s need for a shooter, the fact of the matter is, he does fit the roster better than Horford does. [lawrence-related id=38219,38216,38209]
