B/R says Brooklyn Nets should keep team as is during trading season

Can the Brooklyn Nets win a title with the team as is?

The Brooklyn Nets should “hold” during the 2023 NBA trading deadline, according to an article by Bleacher Report on Monday. Within the terms of the piece, a team that should hold is a franchise that isn’t necessarily perfect as is, but is a team that has limited capital to make something during trading season and as a result, is best served to take its current situation as far as it can go with minor moves to make if available.

The Nets are one of the best teams in the league when healthy. A trio of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Ben Simmons should be enough to make Brooklyn contenders even though Simmons has not progressed as fans hoped for. The one thing the Nets could use is another big man, but the only ways that Brooklyn can acquire said big is through a trade or through the buyout market.

Throughout this season, the Nets have been linked to bigs such as John Collins, Jakob Poeltl, and now, Serge Ibaka. One thing is for certain, Brooklyn needs to make a move for another big before it’s too late. Here’s what Bleacher Report had to say about the Nets’ current situation with regards to its roster:

“Brooklyn is good enough to win a title with KD and absolutely toast without him. There’s no effective planning around his extended absence when your co-stars are the wildly talented-yet-not-transcendentally-uplifting Kyrie Irving and ultra-ultra-ultra low-volume Ben Simmons. If you can’t count on Durant to hold up through the postseason, that’s actually a reason not to buy.”
