Following the Bears’ disappointing 2019 season, there are no shortage of players looking to rebound in 2020. Given the struggles of the offense, one player that will be looking to build off the previous year is receiver Anthony Miller.
Miller had an impressive rookie season, where he caught six touchdowns., but expectations were even higher for the second-year receiver in 2019. Miller didn’t play nearly to his potential the entire season. But when he did, he was electric, and you could see why general manager Ryan Pace traded up for him in 2018.
There was a five-game stretch where Miller accrued 33 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns between Weeks 11-15. When the Bears offense was working, Miller was thriving.
Bleacher Report believes that, should the Bears offense get on track, Miller is primed for a breakout season in 2020.
The 25-year-old Memphis product had a strong rookie campaign with seven receiving touchdowns. His end-zone production dropped in 2019, but he recorded 52 receptions for 656 yards and two scores and had a 61.2 percent catch rate. He also saw an uptick in his role and was targeted 31 more times.
The dip in touchdowns is attributed largely to the volatility at the quarterback position. Mitchell Trubisky was inconsistent and struggled to stay healthy and finish games. His replacement, Chase Daniel, played at a decent level but not well enough to elevate players like Miller.
Miller spent last offseason rehabbing from shoulder surgery, and unfortunately, that’ll be the same case for Miller this offseason as he’ll once again be about recovering from surgery on his left shoulder, which he sustained returning a kickoff in the season finale against the Vikings.
The hope is that Miller will be ready for training camp and he’ll head into this season with no limitations.
