There have been some wild trade ideas thrown around since the Los Angeles Lakers were crowned the 2020 NBA Champions, especially by Bleacher Report.
The latest crop of proposals was deliberately labeled “absurd” by Zach Buckley — and that’s no exaggeration.
Among the proposed trades was a deal that would bring Karl-Anthony Towns to Brooklyn in exchange for Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen and No. 19 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft (from the Philadelphia 76ers).
Essentially, Buckley is trying to turn the Timberwolves into the Western Conference Nets, with D’Angelo Russell now in Minnesota.
Simply put: “absurd” is absolutely the proper label for this deal.
There’s not a chance the Timberwolves would ever agree to this move. Even though it’ll be tough for the T-Wolves to win soon, KAT is their star and he finally has one of his best friends in the game on his team. Now would be a wild time to punt.
Would KAT provide the Nets with an interesting new wrinkle on offense? Sure. But Brooklyn would lose two ball-handlers in the process.
Also, typically, one player in a Big 3 has to take a step back offensively. How would KAT respond to that idea? Because Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving certainly wouldn’t be the ones sacrificing their scoring.
