Utah State vs Oregon State
QB Chance Nolan, Oregon State: Inconsistent over the first half of the season and steady in the second, the 6-3, 200-pounder was good for well over 200 yards per game in five of the last six. He kept the mistakes to a minimum late, improved his yards as he got more comfortable, and now it’s time to start pushing for 2022.
LB Andrzej Hughes-Murray, Oregon State: No pressure, but with star linebacker and leading tackler Avery Roberts out for the bowl game, the defense needs more big plays and production from the rest of the linebacking corps. The 246-pound Hughes-Murray made 49 tackles with four sacks on the outside, but he’ll have to play big in this against the run.
QB Logan Bonner, Utah State: He followed head coach Blake Anderson over from Arkansas State, and he helped turned a woeful offense into a Mountain West champion with 3,560 yards and 36 touchdown passes. The 6-1, 230-pounder doesn’t take off much, and he’ll throw picks, but he’ll keep on bombing away.
LB Justin Rice, Utah State: The offense took center stage, but the defense had some nice parts, too. Rice – a 6-2, 225-pound sixth-year senior transfer from Fresno State – led the team with 115 tackles with 13.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions. He came up with ten tackles in each of the last three games including the Mountain West Championship.
