UAB vs BYU
RB Tyler Allgeier, BYU: The compact back was a breakout star of the 2020 team with 13 touchdowns, and he followed it up with an even stronger season with 1,414 yards and 20 scores to go along with 26 catches. He’s the workhorse with six 100-yard games and big home run-hitting ability.
LB Ben Bywater, BYU: The interestingly-designated third-year freshman bulked up over the last few seasons and became a hitting machine on the BYU linebacking corps. He’s not used much as a pass rusher – even with 6.5 tackles for loss – but he’s in on everything against the run with a team-high 93 tackles.
RB DeWayne McBride, UAB: The Blazers had several good rushing options this season, but the 5-11, 215-pound McBride took over with a team-high 1,188 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s got a great burst in the open field and a nose for the goal line, scoring 11 times in the last six games.
LB Noah Wilder, UAB: A fantastic all-around playmaker in 2019, he was okay in 2020 before picking it back up this year with a team-high 86 tackles with 5.5 tackles for loss. A volume run stopper who gets around the ball, he closed out with 14 stops against UTEP and had a midseason two-game stretch with 26 tackles.
