UTEP vs Fresno State
RB Ronnie Rivers, Fresno State: With all of the changes and all of the key losses for the team after the regular season, Rivers needs to be the full focus of the offense. The 5-9, 195-pound do-it-all veteran ran for 788 yards and five scores, caught 34 passes with two scores, and was a return man, too. He’s about to have a very busy bowl.
WR Jalen Cropper, Fresno State: Is he headed to the transfer portal along with his quarterback, Jake Haener? It doesn’t seem so quite yet – the Bulldogs need him. The explosive receiver led the way with 76 catches for 827 yards and 11 scores – coming up with at least one in each of the first seven games – and can be used as a runner, too.
WR Jacob Cowling, UTEP: All of a sudden, UTEP had an explosive element to an offense that struggled to do anything fun for a long, long time. To be fair, Cowling was great in his first two seasons, too, but this year he took it up a notch averaging over 20 yards per grab with 1,343 yards and seven scores on his 67 catches.
DE Praise Amaewhule, UTEP: Toiling in relative anonymity on bad teams over the last few seasons, now the 6-3, 245-pound pass rusher gets a bowl game after another great season. He’s a bit undersized, but he’s ultra-quick with 5.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. Fantastic at batting down passes, he broke up seven on the year.
