Miami vs Washington State
QB Tyler Van Dyke, Miami: No one exemplified the toughness of the team through a hard season more than Van Dyke. Thrown into the fire after D’Eriq King got hurt, the 6-4, 225-pound freshman balled out in game after game, finishing with 2,931 passing yards with 25 touchdowns and six picks with a rushing score.
DT Leonard Taylor, Miami: It was a disappointing season for the defense, but there’s hope with a rising star up front. The new coaching staff is going to build around the 6-3, 305-pound Taylor, who came up with a team-high 9.5 tackles for loss with 21 tackles and two sacks in his freshman campaign.
QB Jayden de Laura, Washington State: He might not be accurate enough or consistent enough for what the offense needs to do, but he’s good for 250 passing yards ever time out and he’s decent at limiting the mistakes. He closed out the regular season red hot, hitting 84% of his throws for 245 yards in a win over Washington. The offense is on his shoulders.
RB Max Borghi, Washington State: One of the best all-around backs you probably haven’t seen yet, Borghi was a pass catching and rushing touchdown machine as a sophomore, got hurt as a junior, and this year ran for 12 touchdowns. He closed out with 258 yards and four touchdowns in his last two games.
