WKU vs Appalachian State
RB Nate Noel, Appalachian State: The lightning-quick 190-pounder led the team with 1,076 yards with four touchdowns. He did a lot of the work, and running mate Cameron Peoples usually closed things out with 14 touchdowns. Noel was the was the 100-yard runner – hitting the mark in five games with the team winning each time.
LB D’Marco Jackson, Appalachian State: The 6-1, 230-pound four-year tackling star earned All-Sun Belt honors with 114 tackles with six sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss. A volume-tackler early in the season – 68 tackles in his first seven games – he grew into more of a playmaker in the backfield.
QB Bailey Zappe, WKU: The nation’s most dangerous passer – at least in yards – the transfer from Houston Baptist super-charged the offense with 5,545 yards and 56 touchdown passes with 11 picks and three rushing scores. Great at finding the open man with room to move, he spread the ball all over the field.
WR Jerreth Sterns, WKU: Bailey Zappe’s top receiver at Houston Baptist came along for the ride. While he might not have the bulk, the 5-9, 195-pounder can hold up just fine as a volume catcher with 137 grabs – averaging over ten per game – with 1,718 yards and 14 scores. He’s always open.
