Clemson vs Iowa State
QB DJ Uiagalelei, Clemson: It’s the first game of the rest of his life. The superstar talent and recruit struggled all year with just nine touchdowns and nine interceptions, but the talent is undeniable and he showed glimpses of potential greatness in between all of the inconsistencies. One big performance would set the tone for 2021.
DE Myles Murphy, Clemson: The Clemson offense might have struggled throughout the season, but the defense more than did its job. The 6-5, 275-pound Murphy was the team’s best pass rusher with seven sacks and 13 tackles for loss. He’s not alone on a defense with 10 All-ACC selections, but this is his time to stand out.
QB Brock Purdy, Iowa State: The longtime starter wasn’t great in last year’s bowl win over Oregon, and he didn’t lead the way to the big season the the program was hoping for, but he was terrific overall hitting 73% of his throws for close to 3,000 yard and 18 scores. Very, very careful with the ball, he didn’t have interception problems outside of the five against Iowa and Texas Tech combined.
RB Breece Hall, Iowa State: He set the NCAA record with a rushing score in 24 straight games, closing out his Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year season with 242 yards and three touchdowns in the win over TCU. The 6-1, 220-pounder ran for 1,472 yards and 20 touchdowns and caught 36 passes for over 300 yards with three touchdowns.
