Texas Tech vs Mississippi State
QB Donovan Smith, Texas Tech: New head coach Joey McGuire has a potential star to develop in the 6-5, 230-pound Smith. He’s got the size, arm, and mobility to be special, but he still needs more time and more consistency. Over the final month of the season he had moments of brilliance with 322 yards in a win over Iowa State and a big day in a tough loss to Baylor.
LB Colin Schooler, Texas Tech: The Arizona transfer made a ton of tackles for the Wildcats, and he’s made a ton of tackles for the Red Raiders over the last two years with a team-high 97 this season with 5.5 tackles for loss. The All-Big 12 performer should be a lock for double-digit stops.
QB Will Rogers, Mississippi State: The Mike Leach offense needs its triggerman, and Rogers has grown into the role with a huge statistical season and the upside to do even more going into 2022. This is a showcase moment after completing 75% of his throws for 4,451 yards and 35 touchdowns with just eight picks.
WR Makai Polk, Mississippi State: The Mississippi State offense doesn’t push the ball down the field too much – it’s about midrange throws and keeping things moving. The 6-3, 200-pound Polk has grown into the perfect target for the attack, leading the team with 98 catches for 989 yards and nine scores.
