Coastal Carolina vs Northern Illinois
QB Grayson McCall, Coastal Carolina: The time off should do wonders for him. The nation’s most efficient passer was knocked out with a shoulder injury before coming back to throw for 319 yards and five scores in a win over Texas State. A master of the offense, he averages over 12 yards per throw with 23 touchdown passes and just three picks.
LB Silas Kelly, Coastal Carolina: The 6-4, 230-pound fifth-year senior is a tone-setting thumper for the defense has been a pass rusher in the past – and he can get into the backfield when needed – but he’s at his best at getting around the ball as the team’s leading tackler with 96 stops.
QB Rocky Lombardi, Northern Illinois: The former Michigan State quarterback was wildly inconsistent, but that was partially based on the offensive game plan each week. He ran for eight touchdowns, had a few huge passing games – 532 yards in the first meeting with Kent State – but his job it to just keep things moving.
S CJ Brown, Northern Illinois: The second-year freshman was a hitting machine in his expanded role. He didn’t do too much when the ball was in the air with just one interception, but he was like an extra linebacker against the run with a team-high 104 tackles. At just 5-11 and 192 pounds he’s not huge, but he’ll pop.
