Bowers sprains ankle in Georgia win

The top-ranked Bulldogs took care of Vanderbilt, but star tight end Brock Bowers left the game early after an awkward tackle.

Georgia star tight end Brock Bowers sprained his left ankle during Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt, head coach Kirby Smart said after the game.

Bowers exited in the second quarter after an awkward tackle left him limping. He eventually walked off the field under his own power.

Smart said the X-rays on Bowers’ ankle came back negative.

The junior was fifth in the SEC in receiving yards entering Week 7. He had four receptions for 22 yards before he left the game, bringing his season totals to 567 yards on 41 catches. He added two carries for 21 yards on the ground.

The Bulldogs have a week off before their next game against Florida on Oct. 28, giving him an extra chance to rest.
