Over the past few seasons, a recurrent wrist injury has hampered the play of All-NBA Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum. Some analysts have wondered if the St. Louis native might make use of his first mostly free offseason in years to get that nagging issue squared away.
But new reporting from ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne relates Tatum has elected to eschew going under the knife. Per Shelburne (via ClutchPoints), Tatum “went into the offseason thinking he might need surgery on his non-shooting wrist. (The Duke alum) went to a bunch of specialists and essentially decided” that he can recover sans surgery.
Will this be a problem again at the end of a long season? Perhaps — but without the training and data needed to confirm if this is the wisest course of action there is no way of knowing.

Tatum knows his body and is as aware as anyone what the stakes are, so fans should trust that the star swingman has made the right call with his wrist.
