Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum might have been strategic about the grief he gave the Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard for saying last month he did not want to play in the city of Boston based.

“I’m hearing Jayson Tatum is knocking on that door now, too, to figure out a way to get (Lillard) to come to Boston,” ESPN’s Marc Spears reported on a recent episode of “NBA Today” via MassLive’s Brian Robb.

Such rumblings match what we have heard from “This League Uncut’s” Chris Haynes, who reported Boston was among teams that “reached out to see what it would take” to make a Lillard deal go down. It is not clear how serious Tatum’s inquiry was or if it was coordinated with whatever the front office might have been doing.

It is also unclear how serious the Celtics are about such a trade given the substantial ask it would likely require to even get in the running for the coveted free agent.
