Boston Celtics outlast hungry Toronto Raptors squad, win second straight preseason tilt 113 – 111

It wasn’t a pretty ending, but at least we avoided overtime.

The Boston Celtics won a preseason exhibition game against the Toronto Raptors 113 – 111 this Saturday, October 9 despite being down both All-Star forward Jaylen Brown (health and safety protocols) and veteran point guard Dennis Schroder (left knee contusion).

The game started with the Celtics jumping out to an early lead, only to see the Raptors claw their way back into the game, with star forward Jayson Tatum logging 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists, with teammate Al Horford looking very nimble with 16 points on a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Second-year point guard Payton Pritchard added 11 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

The Raptors were led by Fred Van Vleet’s 22 points and 5 assists, and new teammate Precious Achiuwa had himself a double-double with 13 points and as many boards.

Boston next faces the Orlando Magic on the road for a rematch of their exhibition opener this Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 7 pm ET.
