Boston Celtics have a new face among league’s top-five jersey sales

The Boston Celtics have a strong showing among the NBA’s top-selling jerseys and other merchandise, supplying a new addition to the NBA’s five most popular jerseys.

The NBA recently announced their top-selling jerseys at the halfway point of the 2019-20 season, and a new Boston Celtic has cracked the top five for the first time of his young career.

Third-year swingman Jayson Tatum’s jersey is the league’s fourth-best selling jersey, putting the Duke product in some rarified air.

He trails LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, who have the three top-selling jerseys of the league in that order.

He is ahead of the Houston Rockets’ James Harden, the Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard, and well ahead of teammate Kemba Walker, whose jersey is the league’s 14th most popular in terms of sales.

Boston merchandise in general is the second-most popular across the league, with only longtime rival Los Angeles Lakers outpacing their rate of team-affiliated merchandise.

They are followed by the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors for the third and fourth-most popular franchise in terms of merchandise sales, the latter of which cracks the top five for the first time in franchise history.

Boston’s strong showing in NBA merchandise and jersey sales reflects their success this season — recent losses excluded — and with Tatum and teammate Jaylen Brown’s ascent into their prime, it’s not out of the question for the team to have an even stronger showing next season.
