Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, Davante Adams and even Christian Kirk all got paid in the offseason. There’s a time and place for everything, but if the latest trend of receivers netting massive contracts continues, Minnesota Vikings receiver Adam Thielen is hoping the day comes when he gets paid, too.
“Yeah, it makes me want to play the game a few more years. It’s going pretty well for wide receivers,” said Thielen, when appearing on NFL Network. …Excited for [the guys that are getting paid] and also, it doesn’t hurt my future opportunities at all.”
Thielen is already doing well for himself playing on a $64 million deal.
However, it’ll be tough for him to move any further up the pay scale considering his age and productivity. The former two-time Pro Bowler turns 32 years old in August, and he hasn’t cleared 1,000 yards receiving in nearly four years.
Granted, he’s had to play across from Diggs and Justin Jefferson in those years. But the greater likelihood is the Vikings approaching him for more restructuring of his contract instead of offering him a flat-out raise.
Assuming it even exists, a future where that kind of money falls into Thielen’s hands at this point of his career isn’t likely to be in Minnesota.
