Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton joining the Chicago Bears via trade is just one of those things that seem to make sense this offseason.
Boomer Esiason tends to agree.
Esiason, who sees some similarities between Dalton’s tenure and the one he had with the Bengals all those years ago, could see that sort of deal happening, per Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:
“The thing going for the Bengals is they can trade him to a team like Chicago. I see that as the perfect fit for Andy Dalton. Maybe not as the starter, but as a (Ryan) Tannehill and push the guy they hope can be the starter, but eventually if it works out for him he would have an opportunity to take that job and earn that job and have a No. 1 defense. But it’s a very difficult division. Unless Andy wants to go somewhere else.”
This is something we’ve touched on in the past, as it sounds like the Bengals will do right by Dalton on his way out the door.
Esiason is someone who can vouch for the idea Mike Brown and the front office generally do right by their players, including when it’s time to move on. That hasn’t had a 100 percent hit rate of course, but Dalton will surely fall into that category.
Dalton currently has one year left on his deal and had explored the idea of a trade after getting benched at the deadline as it is. With Joe Burrow inbound, the Bengals seem likely to ship him out to a good situation while netting some sort of return.
And if Joe Burrow is Dalton’s replacement spurring such a trade, Esiason happens to see some Patrick Mahomes in the LSU quarterback.
