Could the #Raiders trade All-Pro RB Josh Jacobs?

The Raiders have just a few days left to sign All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs to a contract extension. As we near the Monday deadline, it doesn’t appear that a day will get done. So what could happen next for Jacobs and the Raiders?

In a recent article by Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report, he wrote about the ongoing contract discussions between the Raiders and Josh Jacobs. He believes that if the Raiders and Jacobs can’t come to a deal, the team could trade him before camp.

Here is a snippet of what he had to say about the possibility of the Raiders trading Jacobs in the upcoming days:

Over the past month, Jacobs has posted two cryptic tweets that could be construed as a threat to hold out for a new deal, and that he wants (in his view) a fair shake at the negotiating table.

The Raiders don’t seem eager to sign Jacobs at a premium price. If that’s the case, the two sides may explore trade options.

The Raiders selected running backs Zamir White and Brittain Brown in the fourth and seventh rounds of the 2022 draft, respectively. They resigned Ameer Abdullah, and going back to his time in New England, Brandon Bolden has played under head coach Josh McDaniels for nine (active) seasons since 2012.

In the article, Moton suggested that the Raiders could trade Jacobs to the Jets, who are clearly going all-in to win a Super Bowl this year. With Breece Hall coming off a torn ACL, Jacobs would give them an All-Pro back in his prime to pair with Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the weapons on offense.

However, it seems pretty far-fetched that the Raiders will actually be able to trade Jacobs. Instead, look for him to play for Las Vegas in 2023 on the franchise tag. That is still the most likely outcome.
