Arguably, there wasn’t a better one-two punch in college football last year that was better than Hassan Haskins and Blake Corum.
‘Thunder and lightning’ burst onto the scene last season in high dosage. Michigan ran for over 300 yards during the first three games of the season, and Blake Corum found himself over 100 yards in each of those games.
The running game became the Wolverines’ offensive identity, and there wasn’t much teams could do to stop it. Even when Michigan lost Blake Corum to an injury, Hassan Haskins stepped up to have one of the best seasons in Michigan history — like his five-touchdown performance against rival Ohio State.
Haskins is now gone to the NFL where he is going to try and carve out a role with the Tennessee Titans next season, but the Wolverines still have Mr. lightning himself, Blake Corum. Corum’s counterpart, Donovan Edwards, should have himself a nice season as well — he looked very good last year in the limited playing team we got to see from him.
Needless to say, Corum is going to be a major part of this year’s Michigan offense. Brad Crawford from 247Sports ranked the top 25 running backs for the upcoming season, and to no surprise, Corum was ranked towards to the top. Crawford has Corum ranked sixth in the nation and he wrote about how important Corum is to this Wolverines’ offense.
6. BLAKE CORUM, MICHIGAN

There might not be a player for a team ranked inside college football’s preseason top 25 that means more to his squad’s success in 2022 than Blake Corum. According to PFF’s advanced stats, Corum registered 553 yards after contact last season, which ranks near the top of college football. Corum was one of only four Power Five running backs with at least 100 carries who averaged at least 6.5 yards per attempt, a notable statistic given Michigan’s reliance on his production alongside Hassan Haskins in a two-headed attack.
Some other notable names that were ranked: Chase Brown (Illinois) at 19, Mohamed Ibrahim (Minnesota) at 18, former Michigan running back Zach Charbonnet (UCLA) at 12, Braelon Allen (Wisconsin) at three, and TreVeyon Henderson (Ohio State) at two.
