Former Vol Blade Tidwell’s contract with New York detailed.

The 2022 Major League Baseball first-year player draft took place July 17–19 in Los Angeles, California.

The 2022 MLB draft was 20 rounds. Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello served as a Major League Baseball Network analyst during the first round.

Ten student-athletes on the Vols’ 2022 roster were selected during the MLB draft.

Sophomore pitcher Blade Tidwell was selected by the New York Mets in the second round (No. 52 overall).

The 6-foot-4, 207-pound Tidwell (3-2) appeared in 13 games for the Vols in 2022. He recorded 51 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA during the 2022 campaign.

Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline detailed Tidwell signing with New York.

“Second-rounder Blade Tidwell signs with Mets for $1.85 million (slot 52 value = $1,475,100),” Callis announced. “Sure first-rounder if not for shoulder issues earlier in year, 93-96 mph fastball to 99, low-80s slider to 88 with sweep and depth, promising sinking changeup as well.”
