Billy Napier says NIL will be a ‘slam dunk’ for the Gators

Head coach Billy Napier continues to reiterate that NIL will be a strength for the Florida Gators.

The name, image and likeness rule changed college football forever since its inception last July, be it for the better or the worse. NIL has worked the way it’s supposed to, but also hasn’t, which has created a lot of issues.

Like how NCAA rules prohibit programs from using NIL to entice players to enroll at their schools. However, that is still occurring at places across the country. Florida head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] acknowledged that other schools are doing that when he met with the media this past week.

Napier said this new era along with the NCAA transfer portal has created extra recruiting periods.

“You’re talking about two more times of the recruiting calendar where players become available,” Napier said, according to Gators Online. “You can add a player in December, you can add a player in February. Now, there’s a winter transfer portal and there’s a spring portal period.

“That creates work to do. The more stability that you can create on a roster the better leverage you got. The less business you have to do at those times of the year. I think there’s something to be said for player retention.”

Napier believes roster retention is a strength of the Gators because of the creation of the Gator Collective and the Gator Guard.

He said, “I continue to believe that as every day goes by and the more that we are boots on the ground as we get out and we get to know people, NIL will be a, is gonna be a slam dunk for the Florida Gators.”
