All seemed well in Gainesville after the Gators pulled an upset victory over the No. 9 Tennessee Volunteers Saturday night, but fans did receive some bad news about wide receiver Eugene ‘Tre’ Wilson III.
Wilson went into the locker room before halftime and appeared to be favoring his left arm before getting an x-ray.
ESPN’s Holly Rowe reported that Wilson suffered an injury to his collarbone, leaving him unavailable to finish the game.
“The most potent weapon in that first quarter for the Florida Gators, Eugene Wilson III, will not return to this game,” Rowe said. “He has an apparent collarbone injury on the left side of his body. I saw him walk into the tunnel holding that left arm and collarbone gingerly.”
Wilson’s injury was a popular topic of conversation in the post-game media scrum and Florida head coach Billy Napier addressed the issue.
“Tre is going to be fine. The x-ray was normal. I think he has a bruise of some — you know, but he wasn’t able to return,” Napier said. “Just didn’t have the strength to return. He wanted to play, but I don’t think he was ready to play.”
Wilson has been a favorite weapon for quarterback Graham Mertz this season and was playing lights-out football before going to the locker room, compiling 60 yards on six receptions. The freshman wideout has put up 104 receiving yards and averages 8.7 yards a catch.
