Billy Napier expects running back Montrell Johnson Jr. to play vs. Miami

Gators football head coach Billy Napier “anticipates” running back Montrell Johnson Jr. to play this Saturday against Miami.

Florida football running back Montrell Johnson Jr. will most likely be playing against the Miami Hurricanes this Saturday.

After undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on his left knee due to an injury during the first week of training camp, Johnson has been slowly getting back to 100 percent.

Head coach Billy Napier addressed the media on Wednesday and said that he “anticipates” Johnson will play on Saturday.

“We anticipate Montrell (Johnson) being available,” Napier said. “If he’s on that depth chart at the top of the list, he’s ready to go.”

Napier went on talk about how much of an impact Johnson brings to the Gators’ offensive attack.

“He (Johnson) has tremendous experience (being in) his fourth year in the system,” Napier said. “He has character (and) I think the players respect him. He has a voice on our team.”

Last season with the Gators, Johnson had 152 carries for 817 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He also logged 30 catches for 236 yards and had a touchdown reception.
