The 2023 Florida Gators football team will look drastically different from the 2022 roster, but Billy Napier exuded confidence when speaking about the group he’s heading into Year 2 in Gainesville with.
“We have a great group of veterans that have experience and have wisdom from the past,” Napier said on Wednesday at the SEC Media Days. “We have brought in an influx of young talent and I feel really good about what we did in the portal. We added 10,000 stats and 123 starts with that group. I’m excited about the compound effect of year two, the consistency of the process, the consistency in our systems.”
Napier’s confidence isn’t blind. Acquiring most of the new players on the roster ahead of the spring played a big role in getting everyone on the same page. With fall camp approaching, nearly 30 first-year Gators should already feel at home.
“The next five weeks will be paramount for our football team,” he said.
The Gators are wrapping up a nine-week summer regimen that’s seen the team get a lot stronger. The roster is made up of almost all Napier-era players, which should mean the culture change is near completion.
Now it’s about putting up results on the field, and Napier has put together this group by hand to bring Florida back to success.
