Former UCLA Bruins legend Bill Walton passed away on Memorial Day, sparking plenty of tributes from athletes to bands and baseball teams.
Walton’s passing away brought about conversations about him as a player and a broadcaster, even circulating some of his best moments with the microphone.
Jon Wilner of The Mercury News ranked the 10 greatest athletes (subscription required) in Pac-12 history, and Walton was very high on the list.
Walton’s appeal as a broadcaster, his NBA success and his general impact on society was such that the litany of tributes on social media this week rarely mention that he was on the very short list of greatest players in college basketball history.
Other UCLA players such as Arthur Ashe, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Jackie Robinso made this list with Robinson taking the top spot.
But, Bill Walton’s legacy as a player, broadcaster, and person will be remembered forever.
