The Washington Redskins are well aware of the damage New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley can do on every down.
Even after missing Barkley earlier this year, Redskins interim head coach Bill Callahan has his guys ready for one of the unique aspects that sets the Giants running back apart from the rest, per Kyle Stackpole of Redskins.com:
“He makes the types of cuts that you wouldn’t see a running back make, which makes him special.”
That trait would at least in part explain why Barkley has racked up 722 yards and four touchdowns on a 4.1 average this year. That’s only over 11 games too. A season ago, he had 1,307 and 11 touchdowns on an average of 5.0.
The Redskins defense did keep Barkley in check once last year, limiting him to under 40 yards. Another time, not so much, as Barkley erupted for 170 yards and a score on a 12.1 average.
For Callahan, the hope is to limit Barkley this time out while continuing to develop key players like Dwayne Haskins.
