Washington Redskins interim coach Bill Callahan and his staff benched notable secondary members during Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets, including Josh Norman.
Norman, Quinton Dunbar and Fabian Moreau were benched down the stretch so the coaches could get a better look at depth talent.
So says Callahan himself, per Matthew Paras of the Washington Times: “Callahan says Norman, Dunbar and Moreau were benched yesterday because they wanted to look at other players. Their snaps were limited down the stretch.”
This sort of thing isn’t wholly unusual for a team that is now 1-9. And it isn’t too shocking it happened in the middle of a 34-17 loss in which Jets quarterback Sam Darnold casually tossed four touchdowns.
We’ll see how this situation changes, if at all, in the coming weeks. The Redskins going into evaluation mode isn’t too surprising. But it’s always going to raise some eyebrows when a pricey veteran like Norman takes a seat.
