Bill Belichick shares what he’s thinking ahead of the NFL trade deadline

New England might be more active than we’re used to.

The NFL’s trade deadline isn’t the most active in sports. However, with this year being just a little different than those in the past, teams may be more willing to buy and sell this season.

For those who were wondering exactly what position the Patriots consider themselves in, it seems like that is yet to be determined.

On his Tuesday video conference, coach Bill Belichick was asked to speak on the deadline and how the team may act in the next week, but he insinuated that those dealings are the responsibility of the director of player personnel, Nick Caserio.

“That is something that I’ll check in with Nick on here this week,” Belichick stated. “I usually don’t get too involved in that. The communication on that really goes through the personnel department with Nick and his staff. I would say generally speaking the coaches are pretty involved in their game preparations at this point in time until something becomes more a realistic opportunity. We’ll see how that goes.

“I don’t really have a good sense on that one way or the other. I am sure there are conversations out there. How close that would or wouldn’t be for us, I am not really sure at this point.”

New England is in an interesting position, as they find themselves with a 2-4 record and in third place in the AFC East. If the team believes that they can fix the issues that put them in this position, they may try and acquire some talent to assist in achieving that goal.

However, it’s more than feasible that Belichick and Caserio arrive at the conclusion that this season may be a lost cause, and it’s better to look towards the future. In that case, some fan favorites may be finding their way out of town.

What the team will actually do is anybody’s guess. Not even the head coach seems to know, or so he says.
