Bill Belichick has tremendously high praise for Damien Harris

Bill Belichick had high praise for Damien Harris on Thursday.

Damien Harris had a major impact on the New England Patriots rushing game in 2020. Heading into training camp this year, his head coach is taking notice.

Bill Belichick met with the media on Wednesday and discussed the progress of some players.  He had positive things to say about Harris, who looks to make the next step after stabilizing the running game for the Patriots last year. He rushed the ball 137 times for 691 yards and two touchdowns.

Injuries at the running back position paved the way for Harris to receive significant playing time. His work ethic and determination to succeed have impressed Belichick.

“I think Damien’s a player that improved a lot from year one to year two,” Belichick told reporters before practice on Thursday. “This year, he’s in a little different role. Now he has an opportunity to compete for a lead spot and so he has embraced that. He’s worked hard. He’s been here since the day after the season was over. He has worked as hard as anyone has in the offseason. I’m sure that’ll help his preparation. Heading into this camp, we’ll see how he does. He’s worked extremely hard. He’s a very dedicated player. I’ve been impressed by the commitment he has shown.”

With the Patriots fostering a crowded running back room heading into training camp, Harris will look to build off the success of 2020.
