Bill Belichick entertained every question about Tom Brady ahead of the New England Patriots’ matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Belichick discussed the difficulties of defending Brady, and admitted the Patriots wouldn’t have had as much success if not for drafting Brady in 1999.
Belichick was stunningly honest and complimentary — until the postgame. When the Buccaneers beat the Patriots, 19-17, Belichick turned into a pumpkin (or a grumpkin) and was no longer willing to discuss the quarterback. He fielded a question after the game about facing Brady for the first time.
“Look we went against Tom Brady every day, every day in practice defensively. So it’s not like we’ve ever seen Tom Brady before,” Belichick said early on Monday morning.
A reporter later followed up, asking about how the Patriots kept it competitive against their former quarterback.
“Yeah, I think we already covered that,” Belichick said. “That was one of the first questions.”
