Bill Belichick adds two coaches to UNC football staff per report

Bill Belichick adds two members to coaching staff.

Since Bill Belichick was hired at North Carolina, he’s taken his time filling out his coaching staff and front office. The head coach had added some key names from Washington to his staff already and did retain Freddie Kitchens from the previous staff.

Now, he’s adding two names that have experience on the college and NFL levels with ties to Kitchens.

Per reports from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Tar Heels are expected to hire Will Friend as offensive line coach and Mike Preifer as special teams coordinator.

Friend is a former guard who played his college football at Alabama and has years of experience on the college level in terms of coaching. He’s made stops at Gardner-Webb, UAB, and Georgia as offensive line coach before becoming the offensive coordinator at Colorado State. He then spent time at Tennessee, Auburn, and Mississippi State as offensive line coach. Friend was the offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky for the 2024 campaign.

As for Priefer, he played at Navy and began his coaching career there. He’s bounced back and forth between college and the NFL being the special teams coordinator, offensive tackles coach and tight ends coach for several programs.

In the NFL, he’s worked with the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings.

North Carolina still needs to fill out a few more roles on their coaching staff but things are starting to take shape for Belichick and the program.
