Big Ten Network’s Joshua Perry on Gavin Wimsatt: ‘Man, I think that kid is special’

Rutgers football quarterback Gavin Wimsatt can be special according to one Big Ten Network analyst.

Count the Big Ten Network’s Joshua Perry among those impressed with the recent development of Rutgers quarterback Gavin Wimsatt.

Last Saturday, Wimsatt had his most impressive four quarters of his young college career. In a 27-21 loss at Michigan State, the Rutgers quarterback was 20-of-34 for 236 yards and two touchdowns.

A former four-star recruit, Wimsatt should be a freshman. The recently turned 19-year-old graduated from high school early, playing just three games of his senior season before graduating and enrolling at Rutgers.

Wimsatt is the future of not just the Rutgers rebuild but the overall direction of the program.

“I will say this about Rutgers. Gavin Wimsatt and what I believe that he can be into the future – man. I think that kid is special,” Perry said on the Big Ten Network this week.

“He needs to refine his game. He needs a little bit more touch. He needs to continue to learn. But the physical tools are ridiculous. And w saw the run game open up a little bit because you have the threat of a quarterback who can be dangerous running and passing. And now you’re in a position to where, of course you’d love to make a bowl but let’s say you don’t. Recruiting is the most important thing now. I’m going out on the road and I’m going to every wide receiver and I’m like ‘Look at this guy that we can have throwing you the football. Join us. Join us because we can build something special.”

Revsine co-signed the points, calling Wimsatt’s potential “tantalizing.”

“He’s going to be a special one,” Perry added.

Perry is a former linebacker at Ohio State.

Rutgers hosts No. 11 Penn State at 3:30 PM ET on the Big Ten Network.
