Big Ten Network analyst Jake Butt thinks USC will compete for conference title

USC fans, Jake Butt might be your favorite new Big Ten Network commentator.

USC football fans might have a new favorite commentator at the Big Ten Network. Jake Butt, who played for Michigan and is now an analyst at BTN, said at Big Ten media days on Wednesday that “USC will be competing for a Big Ten championship.” He is convinced that Lincoln Riley’s coaching staff changes on the defensive side of the ball will make a big difference for the Trojans. Butt thinks Nebraska and USC will make big forward strides in the conference this season.

Jake Butt seems to have grasped how good D’Anton Lynn was at UCLA one year ago, quickly transforming the Bruins from mediocre to excellent on defense. If Lynn could do that at UCLA, he can surely do the same — if not better — at USC. The Trojans should have a solid offense this year. It might not be the best offense they or Lincoln Riley have ever had, but if the offense can average 30 points per game and Lynn brings along the defense the way he improved UCLA one year ago, USC should deliver very good results.
