Week One of the College Football season has come to an end. It was a crazy weekend of action, from Thursday through Monday night. 17 of the 18 Big Ten teams won in Week One, including the UCLA Bruins. Now that the dust has settled, the Big Ten Conference fared well and got noticed.
The US LBM Coaches Poll has been released following Week 1 and the Big Ten picked up 7 teams in the poll. When the initial poll was released back in August, the conference had 6 teams. A new team has arrived inside the Top 25.
The Washington Huskies, who went to the national title game a season ago, in their final season the Pac-12 come into the rankings at 25th. They were the top team to receive votes in the preseason poll. Washington beat up on Weber State 35-3 to win the first game under head coach Jedd Fisch.
The rest of the rankings featuring Big Ten teams were no surprise. Ohio State remained 2nd. Oregon dropped down three spots from 3rd to 6th. Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss moved ahead of them. Penn State moved from 9th to 8th, and Michigan dropped to 9th from the 8 spot. That marks four Big Ten teams in the Top 10.
The USC Trojans, under Lincoiln Riley’s leadership upset the LSU Tigers. The Trojans moved from 23rd to 14th, settling in hust behind Oklahoma, and ahead of Miami. Finally, the last team from the Big Ten, the Iowa Hawkeyes settled in at 21st.
The biggest game in Week Two for the Big Ten is the Michigan Wolverines hosting Texas. Other challenges will come when Iowa hosts Iowa State, and Illinois sees Kansas.
