The Big 12 Conference is known for offense, but mostly from a passing standpoint with its air raid offenses. The conference has had its fair share of notable running backs across the board.
Looking at the history of the Big 12’s best running backs, stars such as Billy Sims, Greg Pruitt and Joe Washington didn’t make the list since they played during the era of the Big Eight Conference. Even the first season of Texas Longhorns’ Ricky Williams career didn’t count toward his numbers since it came before the formation of the Big 12.
Looking at the top 10 rushers in conference history, former Sooners running back DeMarco Murray fell just outside of the top 10. He was knocked out of the top 10 in 2016 when Samaje Perine became the all-time leading rusher in Oklahoma history.
