Big 12 Basketball: Recap of every head coach hire, extension, or vacancy

There’s been quite the shake up among Big 12 basketball head coaches over the past month.

Baylor, Kansas State, West Virginia, and TCU are the only Big 12 programs that didn’t have movement on the head coaching front within the past month.

While the majority of conference programs have already hired a new head coach, there’s one vacant spot remaining. When Chris Beard suddenly chose to leave Texas Tech for Texas, it sent the basketball world into a frenzy.

It was a major development and shakeup for Big 12 basketball. Beard appeared to have a great thing going in Lubbock and would have likely received anything that he asked for. However, the opportunity at a program such as Texas was too great to pass up.

Outside of new hires, there were two significant extensions. Kansas head coach Bill Self agreed to a lifetime contract, while Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton is now expected to remain with the Cowboys through the 2027-28 season.

Let’s take a look at every head coach hire, extension, or vacancy within the Big 12 below.
