It is the opening of Big 12 play for the No. 19 Texas Longhorns as they travel to Lubbock for a conference showdown with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Tech is led by first-year head coach Joey McGuire and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is in his second year with the program.
Last year in Austin, Texas blasted the Red Raiders’ defense for 70 points as they doubled up Tech’s offensive effort. Last year the starting quarterbacks were Casey Thompson and Tyler Shough, neither quarterback will play this time around. Thompson is now with Nebraska and Shough is likely out with a shoulder injury suffered against Murray State.
Shough’s 2021 season ended in the game against the Longhorns last year when he suffered a broken clavicle. Donovan Smith is listed as QB1 on the depth chart with Behren Morton serving as the backup. As for Texas, the Horns are likely going with Hudson Card, but Quinn Ewers did practice this past week so don’t rule him out just yet.
