Jalen Hurts has a bright future in the NFL, it’s just a matter of when and how the former Oklahoma Sooners star will make his debut in the league.
There’s been back and forth discussion centering around how the Eagles should utilize the athletic dual-threat quarterback. Bleacher Report just broke down the biggest looming decision for all 32 NFL teams and the best way to utilize Hurts was the Eagles’ most pressing decision.
The Eagles plan to use the Heisman finalist as a change-of-pace option and gadget player.
“Taysom Hill [package] on steroids,” a source told Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson.
The Eagles have to determine how to best utilize Hurts without negatively impacting offensive chemistry. While switching between Hurts and Wentz could keep opposing defense off-balance, it could also keep Philadelphia’s offense out of rhythm.
Philadelphia should look to create packages that allow Hurts to stay on the field for multiple plays at a time or even for entire series. This would allow the offense to maintain momentum while keeping Wentz on the sideline. Otherwise, a dual-quarterback formation should be implemented.
The gadget plays and change of pace sound nice, but Carson Wentz has established a rhythm with this team and it’ll be on Press Taylor and Doug Pederson to not disrupt that late 2019 flow that was exhibited.
The Eagles’ best overall move is continuing with the Idea of developing Hurts and turning him into a lucrative asset that would liken to Dak Prescott, just eventually on another team.
