The Clemson Tigers pulled away in the second half to win their third straight contest on Saturday night in Death Valley, defeating the Stanford Cardinal 40-14.
Cade Klubnik threw four touchdowns to four different receivers as the Tigers (3-1), ranked No. 15 in the US LBM Coaches Poll entering the day, overcame some first-half struggles and malaise.
Klubnik finished with 255 yards in a 15-of-31 showing that also included a 34-yard rushing touchdown on Clemson’s first drive. It marked the second week in a row that the blossoming quarterback, now in his second full season as a starter with offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, used his legs to get the Tigers their first score.
Clemson led, 17-7, at halftime before scoring 23 unanswered points in the second half to take a commanding 40-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Next up for Clemson is the annual showdown with the Florida State Seminoles next Saturday in Tallahassee.
