It’s been nine months since Brent Venables stepped off the plane at Max Westheimer Airport in Norman to a crowd of thousands of Oklahoma fans. During his flight, it was made official that Brent Venables would be the next head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners.
It was a whirlwind of a week from the time that Lincoln Riley stepped down to the rumors began in earnest that Venables would be the coach. But that moment that he stepped off the plane, a sigh of relief was met with enthusiasm and excitement about the future.
And after signing the No. 8 recruiting class back in February, spring ball, a record-setting spring game, a fantastic summer in the 2023 recruiting cycle, and fall camp, the debut season for Brent Venables as a head coach is about to get underway.
All of the talk is about to subside, and everything that’s been discussed about the culture and the vision for the program is about to be laid out for the world to witness. And there’s little doubt that what we’re about to witness in the Brent Venables era will be special.
