The NASCAR Cup Series had a dramatic and entertaining race Monday at Bristol Motor Speedway, which was converted into a dirt track for last weekend’s spectacle and marked the first Cup race on dirt in four decades.
Joey Logano took his first checkered flag of the season while holding off Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Denny Hamlin, who finished second and third, respectively. (And Logano is clearly having a good time with his gladiator sword trophy from the track nicknamed “The Last Great Colosseum.”)
For a novel race like this, drivers truly didn’t know what to expect. They had practices, and some competed in the third-tier Truck Series race Monday prior to the Cup event.
