Day 4 arrived with the Raiders in need of a safety and a cornerback (or two). Day 4 went and the Raiders still have those same needs.
They didn’t sit idle. They added a running back and a center. They had needs at those positions too, although the two-year, $11 million given to Kenyan Drake deservedly raised some eyebrows. Signing Nick Martin will help replace Rodney Hudson who was traded to the Cardinals.
Most people expected, however, on a team that came into this offseason in desperate need to upgrade the defense, and had made a bunch of additions on the defensive line, would go after the secondary….well, second.
Several teams did address that need. The Raiders didn’t.
But take heart, even with the players who have been signed, there are still quite a few good safeties and cornerbacks out there. So, we lead with those as well as the other two positions at which the Raiders have a need.
