Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has decided to play the mystery game ahead of his team’s Week 13 encounter with the Miami Dolphins.
While those Dolphins won’t reveal whether Ryan Fitzpatrick or injured Tua Tagovailoa will get the start at quarterback, Taylor won’t reveal who will line up where at offensive guard.
It’s an odd decision for Taylor considering guard has been arguably the weakest spot on the roster outright for a year or more, so hiding who goes where won’t offer much of an advantage.
But Taylor has decided to take this approach with Alex Redmond injured. Otherwise, it sounds like Redmond, owner of a 61.1 Pro Football Focus grade, would be getting the start.
That means Michael Jordan (57.1 PFF grade), Quinton Spain (56.6) and Xavier Su’a-Filo (75.5, but over just 40 snaps) and perhaps even Billy Price (50.3) are in the mix in some fashion.
With the way the Bengals have approached the offensive line this year, perhaps Taylor and Co. really don’t know who will start where and why. But the staff simply not knowing or trying to use it as an advantage after last week’s 155 total yards of offense doesn’t bode well for a team that zero experts have picked to win this weekend.
